Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappucino with Whey Protein tastes like a typical Frappucino type of drink. My wife bought it thinking
this is some very healthy new product, and she was so happy to show it to me that I feel bad for her. I told her that it was a great buy, gave her a kiss and drank a cup. However, this "Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappucino" is a perfect example of how food companies get over on people by putting a lot of bullshit on their labels. If you drink a cup (8 ounces) of milk, you would get 9 grams of protein for 110 calories. If you drink a cup of Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappucino you get 10 grams of protein for 178 calories. Not exactly a great source of protein. In fact, if you drank 178 calories worth of milk, you would get 14.5 grams of protein. Aside from the misleading hype on the label ("with Whey Protein"), this stuff tastes pretty good. Considering how fattening it is, I guess it should taste good. I hope my sweet wife does not buy any more of this stuff, as she thinks it is very good for my diet, and I don't have the heart to tell her any different. I have to say that it really frosts my ass to see something labelled as a protein drink when it has less protein per-calorie than milk. I wonder how many well-meaning family members buy things like this for their obese relatives?? It puts another spin on my previous post about the mega-obese and their families. I wonder how many of those mega-obese dudes are being fed bogus protein shakes and similar products that say they are healthy and dietary on the labels while in fact piling on the calories and fat??

You've hit on exactly why I stick to water and unsweetened tea or coffee.
I prefer to spend my calorie budget on food. Of course, that's my personal preference, but it's been a policy that has worked for me.
And Frappucinos are soooo decadent, btw! Giving them up was not fun at all. :-(
Just start reading the label infront of her and start the conversation with, "Hey no wonder this tastes so good, this is a real good example of clever and misleading marketing, blah blah blah"
.There's always a way to get the message across without hurting their feelings. I need to take my own advice though sometimes, I always go for the jugular!!! ha ha ha
You really have to watch everything don't you?
Lipton iced tea has more sugar in it than a can of soft drink!
People need to read the labels and take responsibility. Another great post spidey!!!
Jeff
I drink coffee with low fat milk and sweetened with stevia for virtually the entire day. I think it tastes just as good as frapucinos, lattes, and the like. Of course, I don't want to do a for real taste comparison.
Re. your last post, I've also wondered who's feeding these enormous people (and why?) I can't imagine being as fat as they are (thankfully). I also can't imagine how they'd be able to whip up the self discipline to get rid of the weight. It would seem like eating might be their only pleasure. An in-patient program seems like it would be the only way to go. (Also, can you imagine how these people must reek?)
Yeah, it's good to read the labels...there is so much crap out there that seems healhty but is not.
I still love the mocha frappacino's at starbucks but I get the light ones. I thought it was a lot of calories but the lady at the store and my friend said it's like 170. Now, I have to check it out on the web.
I also am reading labels these days, and it is a real eye opener! On your last post: I feel sorry for these people. I am sure they would rather not be fat, publicly humiliated, and they cannot walk so getting help is difficult. We had a really fat guy living at our hospital for several months. He only had one bowel movement a mo. He finally died there of heart failure. They couldn't even do chest compressions on him (CPR). He was a young man <30. It was real sad. So even inpatient care doesn't always work. He was too fat for gastric bypass surgery also. Anyway, just my 2 cents, and I am glad I am not one of them!
I love Celtic_girl's suggestion. I read once that most so called fat free food was way worse for you because it was often loaded with sugar.
I love that stuff, though. I think how you use it makes a difference. I can't drink milk, but I can drink this stuff. It takes the place of my coffee some days and I have it with a banana before I do a workout. Then when the workout is over, I have a "real" breakfast. I am, however, fully aware that it's not what it is advertised to be.
It tastes great! Like anything, if you use it in proper moderation it is not bad for you. Unfortunately, many folks who are overweight often have trouble just having "one" cup (or one bite, etc.).
