The Prader-Willi Syndrome: LANSING, Mich. - Firefighters cut a hole in the side of a house and
used a forklift to extricate a 900-pound man from his second-floor bedroom after a visiting nurse became worried about his health. Rescue workers were called in Tuesday by the nurse, who determined the 33-year-old man needed medical help, Fire Chief Tom Cochran said. Cochran said the man had not left his home since 2003.
The man's brother, who lives with him, said he suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that creates a chronic hunger feeling that can lead to overeating and life-threatening obesity. Rescue workers brought in a forklift, high enough to raise a platform to a hole cut into the wall of the house. They covered the man with a blue tarp to shield him from onlookers and slid the platform onto a flatbed truck for a trip to Sparrow Hospital.

Commentary: Instead of the Prader-Willi Syndrome it should be called the "Gigantic Fat Fuck" syndrome. Instead of covering the man with a
tarp so he won't be humiliated, they should keep his lard-ass on the flat-bed truck and drive him around town so everyone can see what happens to people who have no shame, no self-respect, no discipline, and no guts. At 900 lbs., these gigantic blobs have a tube taped into their pee-hole because they can't go to the restroom or find their weiner. At the risk of offending the sensitive, let me say that there is no way that I can imagine anyone getting to over 500 pounds unless their family is insane or they just want to kill the obese person. At some point when a person hits 500 lbs., they cannot walk any more and are laid out on a king size mattress day and night. Who feeds these people? What are they feeding them with, a shovel? To maintain any weight over 500 pounds a person has to literally eat over 5,000 calories every day of the year.

thing to do is SHUT THE DOOR and turn up the stereo and let the fucker starve for a few months. Sure, give him water and salads, but for Christ's sake if a guy cannot get off the fucking mattress due to obesity, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Don't just keep feeding the bastard until he weighs a frikkin ton!! This is my gripe about the family members of all the mega-gigantically obese. Those guys that get sent to a spa for a year and lose 500 pounds and then gain it back should be taken to a special section of their local zoo. Put them under a shady canopy near a wading pool. Feed them a bucket of salads and vegetables every day until they reach normal weight. It would boost public support of zoos and help the mega-obese at the same time.

Stop overfeeding! Eat less and be happy!! Next issue: Obese kids and the mean people who make fun of them.

For ONCE I agree with you, these people should not have family members and friends helping them continue getting fatter... enabling them to get to such huge proportions. In defence of the Prader Willi person, they have a mental defect and are of low intellegence too I think.... so don't really know what they are doing... again the family/friends are to blame for allowing him to gain so much weight.
Jay Cutler won his 2nd Mr. Olympia. These guys way twice as much he does.

I agree. It annoys me to watch those shows where the fatties are too big to get off the bed, and the relitives say stuff like, "I just feel guilty if i don't buy them 3 dozen donuts and a family KFC meal on the way home from work." Why don't they feel guilty about not giving them healthy stuff?
They think the fatties are REALLY going to be grateful?
It's really irritating!
The nurse determined that he needed medical help? Where was she 700 lbs ago?
I understand a little though. My father is a huge man. He weighs about 400 lbs, and has for most of my life. He lost a lot of weight on Optifast many years ago and his gallbladder along with it. Then he gained it all back and more. We've tried. Mom makes him good healthy meals and then finds him in the kitchen making cheese sandwiches half an hour later. His doctor is no help - he says Dad is the healthiest fat man he's ever seen. No incentive from the medical arena.
Luckily, Dad stays pretty active. He has a large piece of land to maintain, chickens, a dog and is thinking about raising cattle. All those things, plus the garden keep him active. If he never did anything, I would be scared of where he'd be right now. I already worry about him - and he's my inspiration (as in "I don't want to be like that"). God help us all if something ever happens and he's incapacitated....
A lot of us bloggers are overweight due to various reasons (and want to lose some), the reasons are down to ouselves and our lifestyles and if we really want to can do something about it. When it stops you from been able to do things for yourself like the people you highlight the world needs to start to be cruel (to be kind) and starve them like you suggest.
These people do not have a life and are just a burdon to others.
I really don't think this syndrome is making this guy so fat. Has to be the people providing the food. Maybe a medical intervention with a set amount of calories per day will help. But then, will they really keep him in the medical setting due to cost. Nope. It's sad as it will be really hard for this guy/or his family or who takes care of him to change. He will die an early age, how can he not? I know that Richard Simmons would work with some of these super obese people and some would make progress but most would not.
Can you imagine them hospitalizing a guy like this and then a nurse has to get a bedpan under him??? UGH
I have cannot understand how the families of the super-obese enable them to continue down their destructive paths, but then again, no one stopped me from getting near 400 lbs. I don't blame anyone else but myself. I could have ended up much worse. If I am not vigilant, it's still a possibility. I think there are a lot of environmental factors that play a part in obesity including familiy members. Most of the super-obese I have seen have family that are obese as well. I guess I am sympathetic toward these people because I see myself in them and I know that they are hurting in many ways.
No one can stop another person from eating. You can't blame the family.
I must agree with you on this one, I have always thought why do the families give these super obese people the food they do.Maybe it comes down to plain old ignorance on their part. I also think they associate with the "food is love" scenario.
The whole situation is pretty sad. If someone is ill they need help i.e medical intervention, not shaming.
Having said that though, doctors are often not very helpful. They do not seem to have any training in treat obesity as a disease. I remember one doctor I went to in New York, telling me at almost 200lbs, that I could eat as much chocolate as I wanted to, that a chocolate never hurt anyone.
With all the consequences of a high sugar diet and all the problems associated with obesity, I though he was just trying to kill me.
